Completed NEA

 Dear Moderator,

My name is Crina Ciocan. Welcome to my A Level Media Studies blog. This is a record of the work I have undertaken for the Making Media Non-examination Assessment (NEA) within the OCR H409 GCE A Level course in Media Studies.

I worked independently on Brief 3: Magazine and Online to produce the front covers and contents pages for the first two editions of a film magazine called SEQUEL together with the magazine's accompanying website.

Research and Planning

Further down in my blog you will find evidence of my research and planning for this task.

Magazine Covers and Contents Pages

Magazine first edition cover and contents page

Magazine second edition and contents page

Magazine Website

The link to my website, which was created using Wix, can be found at the link below.

The magazine consists of a homepage and a single linked page. This page can be accessed by clicking on Features

NEA Task 21 (Planning) : Photography Planning

Models- The models that I will definitely be using are my friends Pippa and Daniela as this will mean that there will be representations of different social groups- ethnicities. I may also use some other people that I know along the way in case I need more or in case the original models are not as confident in front of the camera as I need them to be.

Location- preferably I will want these photographs to be taken in front of simple solid background colours so that the model posing will be the main focus of the cover and I would like the colours to be pink or white for Barbie and either red, black or white for SCREAM.

Costume- The model for Barbie will be wearing a pink dress as it is quite feminine and when people think of Barbie they think of the colour pink since she will be acting as one of the characters in the movie along with a pink pair of sunglasses. However, for SCREAM the model will not really need an actual costumer, more like casual or maybe smart clothing because she will be the director of the movie.

Props- For Barbie I will have her holding a pink hairbrush and maybe a pink mirror in the other hand. For SCREAM even though she will be the dire tor I will still get her to hold the SCREAM mask in one hand and a knife with blood on it in the other hand so that people will know what movie the cover is about even if they don't see the name of the movie.

Body Language- For both I will be testing out many different body languages but the main for Barbie will be more fun but still a little serious since there is quite a deep meaning within the movie and for SCREAM she will have a more mysterious type of body language and maybe even a little closed off since in the movie people don't know at first who the killer with the mask is.

Lighting-I will have quite high-key lighting for both so that the photographs can clearly be seen but there may be some moments, especially for the second edition where I play will the lights a make them a bit dimmer so it seems more mysterious.

The photographs will be taken by me on my phone.

NEA Task 20 (Planning) : Website Homepage and Linked Page

This is only a draft for now and I will also be testing it out and photoshop to see how it would fully look all put together.

Media Convergence- The SEQUEL logo that will be at the top of the website is also the same as the cover of the magazine and the heading for the contents page.
Hyperlinks- They will include HOME for people to easily go back to the home page and see the latest things, FEATURES which will have the same as contents pages, NEWS of the latest films or actors, directors and filmmakers, REVIEWS allowing people to give their own opinions about the latest movies and to also see other people's so that it brings the community together, ABOUT US giving people information on the magazine and the website and what it is made for as well as allowing them to contact the magazine and ask any questions and SUBSCRIPTIONS where they can apply to pay every month for the magazine to be sent to their homes, or where they can get exclusive content on the website or even for both however that will cost a bit more since it's combined. This is what most film magazines do as it is an easy way for people to navigate around the website and find exactly what they are looking for.
Above the logo there will also be links to socials such as, twitter, instagram, Facebook and even YouTube where they can find longer interviews with than the ones on the website, as they will be more like teasers.

The layout of the website will be quite simple so that it is easier for people to look at and find whatever they like. The colours that I'm considering using are black, red, white and maybe green as this is the colour that helps people concentrate the most which is exactly what I want when people decided to view the website and they are able to have their full attention at the screen.

NEA Task 19 (Planning) : Contents Pages

Image- images of cameras and technology to link to 72

NEA Task 18 (Planning) : Mock Up of Cover 1 and 2

The background will be a very simple colour such as pink or white so that the model will be the first thing that the audience look at. The model will be looking directly at the camera with the props in hand that would link to the movie. Ghostbusters: Afterlife will actually be changed to Knives out 3For the second edition, the background will once again be simple like red or black as well as the model looking directly at the camera with props that link to the movie even though the model will be the director of the movie and not an actress.

NEA Task 17 (Planning) : Coverlines, Images and Page Furniture

 Main Coverline

The first edition of The Sequel will include an actor from an upcoming movie with an interview about what the audience should expect when they watch it. An example of this would be the new Barbie movie as many people grew up watching the different movies and now there is another version with a deeper meaning within it.The second edition will include a director or producer of another upcoming movie explaining deeper into the making of it and what the behind the scenes look like. An example of this would be a new Scream movie as this is a classic and iconic sequel which has been going for many years. These will both link back to the magazine's main focus because the movies that the editions are based on will most likely be sequels of some kind which will persuade the audience as many people enjoy watching movies that link to one another or are continuous.

Other Coverlines

-"Ghostbusters: Afterlife"

-"Deadpool 3: Behind the scenes"

Images

The first edition will include one of the main characters of the movie posing in a way that the character would in front of a simple, plain background.

The second edition will include an image of the producer or director holding a prop so that it links to the movie in case the audience are not sure what movie the edition is supposed to be about.
