NEA Task 8: Research Into Existing Film Magazines For A Media Literate Audience

 Film Stories:

In June 2018, an independent magazine was launched as a podcast and website by Simon Brew. Since then there has been an expansion including a monthly film magazine "Film Stories" (launched November 2018), live reader events and Film Stories Junior magazine (launched July 2019). One copy of the magazines is sold for only £5.99. Typically, their magazine covers have a large image of a well-known celebrity and including what is in the rest of the magazine for the audience to know what they should anticipate to read once they buy the magazine. They have a website with hyperlinks about the news, features, reviews, podcasts, live events, store, magazine and contacting them through email allowing them to easily find any information that they are looking for about the magazine and also being able to actually ask any questions if they don't find a clear answer themselves.

Sight and Sound:

Sight and Sound was published by the British Film Institute as a monthly film magazine in 1932 and then the management was handed to the nascent BFI in 1934. Not every copy is sold for the exact same amount, however they are all sold for around £6. Typically, the magazine covers have a black and white image with once again a well-known celebrity as the main image right in the middle. They include a bit about what is going to be in the rest of the magazine but not too much information. They do not have their own specific website since the management is now with BFI which is also why all the information that a reader needs about Sight and Sound is on the British Film Institute website.

Little White Lies:
Little White Lies was published by a London-based media company TCOLondon in 2005 as a bi-monthly magazine as they had an aim as a magazine to capture the exciting talks about movies and being able to bring people together as a community. Each copy of The Little White Lies magazine is sold for around £7.40. Typically, the Little White Lies magazine has a colourful illustration of the movie that is being featured with the title in a white bubble in the exact same place every time.
